DIFFA, which stands for Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS, is an amazing charity that grants funds to other organizations to help in the fight against HIV and AIDS. DIFFA’s Dining by Design is a wonderful annual event that is held on the first night of the Architectural Digest Home Show at the Piers. Designers from all over the world come together and create fabulous, out of the box dining table designs to raise money for a great cause. Below are some of the highlights from this year’s event. This year, I was honored to be a member of the ASID Distinguished judges panel for the Architectural Digest Home Show where we juried the entire show, including DIFFA Dining by Design.
The winner of our Distinguished Judges Panel this year was the design below by Kravet, which employed the new Diane Von Furstenberg collection of fabrics! The bold use of color and pattern really your pulls you in and requires your full attention! Personally this design makes me yearn for summer days and I cannot wait for an opportunity to use some of these amazing new textiles.

We also are loving this vignette by Arteriors! A gnarly root serves as the table base and brings in a natural element while stump-like stools dripping in gold surround the table. The black back drop highlights the stunning pendants and bring your eye up, adding sparkle to this scene!

This last vignette is a design by Knoll and HOK. A wall of 741 handmade roses appears to bloom as your eye moves from left to right, providing a dramatic back drop for the dining vignette, set against a curved wall of dreamy blue ultra-suede.

A classic Saarinen oval dining table takes center stage surrounded by Washington Skeleton aluminum chairs in a warm copper hue that contrast stark white table. The table is set with Baccarat stemware in sapphire tones along with shaded black candelabra. Overhead, a stunning Swarovski chandelier, is adorned with crystals and LED lights. Blue carpeting completes the scene.
It was a great display of talent for a great cause!
